Uganda’s footprint on the global coffee value chain gained fresh momentum yesterday as industry stakeholders converged in Hamburg for a high-impact Coffee Cupping session that strengthened investor confidence in Uganda’s premium beans. The engagement, hosted under the theme “Mountains to Mug: A Sensory Tour of Uganda,” served as a strategic platform to deepen market penetration in Europe’s most influential coffee hub.

The session was spearheaded by Serawild Coffee in close collaboration with the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, aligning private-sector innovation with government diplomacy to drive visibility for Uganda’s Arabica and Robusta profiles.

During the engagement, Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Danny Mayanja Ssozi, delivered a direct call to action urging investors and roasters across Bavaria and the wider German market to scale up imports of Uganda’s organic coffee. He underscored the need for deeper market linkages, stronger partnerships, and sustained engagement with Ugandan farmers.

He emphasized that Hamburg’s position as the largest coffee-importing port in Europe, handling more than half of Germany’s coffee imports, presents an unrivaled opportunity for Uganda to solidify its footprint in the premium coffee segment. He encouraged roasters to explore Uganda’s diverse flavor profiles and invest in long-term supply partnerships that uplift farming communities back home.

The lead organizer Milly Nafuma, representing Serawild Coffee, reinforced Uganda’s commitment to quality assurance. She thanked German roasters for continually championing Uganda’s Arabica particularly beans sourced from the Elgon and Rwenzori highlands, regions renowned for altitude-driven richness. She reassured partners that Serawild Coffee remains strongly aligned with global quality standards and ready to scale production sustainably.

Participants, including several top German roasters, praised Uganda’s coffee for its distinct aroma, balanced acidity, strong body, and consistent flavor performance. Their feedback reaffirmed Uganda’s competitive edge in the specialty coffee segment and spotlighted the country’s growing reputation for clean, traceable, and ethically sourced beans.

The Hamburg showcase ultimately delivered what the industry needed credible storytelling, sensory validation, and renewed investor appetite. It positioned Uganda as a steady player capable of supplying premium-grade coffee while honoring its heritage, supporting farmers, and competing in a rapidly evolving global market.
